Mama’s Song

My parents left for Niger today.

I don’t really think I have any words to express what I am feeling. Happiness…they belong there, I belong here. Sadness….they are there, I am here.

This is certainly not the first time I have said goodbye to my parents. Oh, no, certainly not.

But this time just feels so…..DIFFERENT.

I’m married now.

Independent.

For some reason it just seems different to say goodbye when I’m all “grown up” and married.

I heard this song on the radio.

Mama’s Song

Carrie Underwood

Mama you taught me to do the right things
So now you have to let your baby fly
You’ve given me everything that I will need
To make it through this crazy thing called life
And I know you watch me grow up and only want whats best for me
And I think I found the answer to your prayers

And he is good, so good
He treats your little girl like a real man should
He is good, so good, he makes promises he keeps
No he’s never gonna leave
So dont you worry about me
Dont you worry about me

Mama theres no way you’ll ever lose me
And giving me away is not goodbye
As you watch me walk down to my future, I hope tears of joy are in your eyes

Cuz he is good, so good
He treats your little girl like a real man should
He is good, so good, he makes promises he keeps
No he’s never gonna leave
So dont you worry about me
Dont you worry about me

And when I watch my little baby grow I’ll only want whats best for her
And I hope she’ll find the answer to my prayers
And that she’ll say

He is good, so good
He treats your little girl like a real man should
He is good, so good, he makes promises he keeps
No he’s never gonna leave
So dont you worry about me
Dont you worry about me

Mama dont you worry about me

Dont you worry about me

So, Dad and Mom…when you arrive safely in Niger after your long trip, please don’t worry about me. Please know that you are in the right place, doing ministry that you are called to. It’s not just a ministry that you are called to, but that Daniel + Kelly and Theo + me are also called to. And I hope you know that we all feel that same calling…that Niger is where you are to be in this time.

Blogs, skype and facebook are not the same as being in person, but at least we do have those. The days and months will fly by and the Lord’s work will continue to be done both in your lives and in ours.

And even if you have given me away, I will always be your little girl.

And Theo will always take good care of me.

So don’t you worry about a thing.

  1. I always think of you when I hear that song. I hate saying goodbye, but what a blessing to know that Theo is taking care of you and that Kelly is taking care of Daniel and you’re all taking care of each other.
