Burn, Baby, Burn

I smell smoke. Oh, wait…that is because Theo is sitting right next to me!

Theo has only one more class and a state test before he is a certified level 1 firefighter.

Today they did a lot of “hands-on” stuff…you know…fighting fires. Out in the country was a property that had an old broken down house on it. The new owners of the property wanted the house gone, so the fire chief volunteered to take care of it. They trainees spent all morning lighting fires and sending teams in to put them out, playing through different scenarios in order to get practical training. At the end of the day, though, the whole house had to come down. And how do you think fire-fighters might tear a house down? Well….using fire of course! “The public” was allowed to come and watch, and Theo made sure that I didn’t miss it!

Driving across the cornfields, this is what I see.

Watching the building burn- it was a 'contained' fire, not a 'fight it' fire

Every several seconds, a glass window would shatter from the heat.
